Patrice Evra has hailed Victor Osimhen’s loan to Galatasaray, a move that stunned much of Europe. The Nigerian striker joined the Istanbul club from Napoli after summer links with top Premier League sides and a switch to Saudi Arabia.
“People underestimate the Turkish league, but bringing in a player like Osimhen is a statement of intent,” Evra said. “He is a gladiator, and the fans in Istanbul live for that kind of passion. For Galatasaray to pull this off while the rest of Europe was hesitating is nothing short of a masterstroke.” He was speaking to Goal.
Evra cast the transfer as a win for both parties. Osimhen leaves a fractious stand-off at Napoli while staying in a competitive European set-up, and Galatasaray gain a world-class centre forward that raises their Europa League ceiling.
Ederson chose to remain at the Etihad despite Saudi Pro League interest, a decision Evra believes preserves the Manchester derby’s competitive edge. At Old Trafford, attacking plans continue to evolve, and with Osimhen now in Türkiye the focus has shifted for the moment.
Uncertainty around his long-term future persists. His Napoli deal reportedly includes a break clause that could be activated in January if a major club such as Chelsea or Arsenal makes a permanent offer that satisfies Napoli’s valuation.
