Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has no doubt that Inter Milan have the “hunger” needed to get back to last season’s level.

The Turk spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, after the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 Serie A victory against Lecce.

Inter are now off and running in Serie A with a win.

The Nerazzurri did not necessarily put in their most performance or run up the scoreline against Lecce this evening.

But it was a convincing, businesslike performance from the Nerazzurri.

Inter had not exactly started off their Serie A title defense the way they wanted to. They had to settle for a draw away to Genoa after some late drama in their opening match.

But the Nerazzurri made no mistake in their second match of the campaign.

Hakan Calhanoglu: “Inter As Hungry As Last Season”

Inter’s performance against Lecce didn’t just get the team three points.

The Nerazzurri also looked like a team who had well and truly woken up after some tired moments in their opener.

It is a long season. Inter will need to keep the level high over the course of many matches to come.

But there is certainly a sense of momentum now that there wasn’t after the match in Genoa on opening day.

Inter midfielder Calhanoglu declared that “We have the same hunger as last season. The same desire to win.”

“Then, the details make the difference.”

“We struggle playing in this heat, as all the other teams do I think,” Calhanoglu noted.

“But with the right determination and mentality, we have to move forward.”

“We have to keep training,” Calhanoglu continued. “Because we were with our national teams, and we came back to training late.”

“We still need to get fitness in our legs,” the 30-year-old former AC Milan midfielder said.

“But little by little, we’ll get back to that level.
