The Armenian midfielder gave his thoughts to InterTV, via FCInterNews, ahead of the team’s first match at the San Siro this season.

Inter have already played one match this season.

The Nerazzurri travelled to Liguria where they faced Genoa. That match ended in a 2-2 draw, with Inter unable to hold on as the host snatched a point with a stoppage time equalizer.

But this time around, Inter will be playing in front of their fans at the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri will have the crowd to urge them on as they seek their first three points of the season.

Lecce are a team who Inter beat both home and away last season. And this time around they’ve gotten their campaign off to a tough start, with a 0-4 defeat at the hands of Atalanta.

Still, Inter certainly will not be underestimating the Puglian team or taking anything for granted.

The Nerazzurri know how important having their home support behind them could prove to be.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan: Inter Milan “Extremely Glad To Be Back At Home” Vs Lecce

“We’re extremely happy to be back at home,” said Mkhitaryan before this evening’s match.

“We hope that we can do well and make the fans proud,” the 35-year-old continued.

“After the match in Genoa we wanted to play another match as soon as possible,” Mkhitaryan admitted. “So that we can win and change the moon in the dressing room.”

The former Arsenal and Roma veteran said that “Today’s a good opportunity to do that.”

Mkhitaryan said that Lecce are “Probably licking their wounds after the match against Atalanta, I’d expect.”

“But that doesn’t mean anything,” the Armenian said.

“Every team that comes to the San Siro tries to do their best. But if we play the way we know how to then we won’t have any problems.”
