Ex-Barcelona goalkeeper announces readiness to come out of retirement to re-sign for club | OneFootball

A one-time member of the goalkeeper ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Monday announced his readiness to return to the game, if it means helping the Blaugrana for the months ahead.

This, of course, comes fresh off an altogether considerable fitness blow in Hansi Flick’s squad.

Barcelona marked their return to action on Sunday night, making the trip to El Madrigal for a La Liga meeting with Villarreal.

When all was said and done, the Catalans kept alive their perfect start to the campaign in Spain’s top-flight, courtesy of a dominant 5-1 triumph.

And yet, post-match, the mood in the Barca camp was a sombre one.

As much comes after first-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen was stretchered out of proceedings in a flood of tears, with a serious knee injury.

The blow in question has since been confirmed by Barcelona themselves to be a ‘complete rupture in the patella tendon in his right knee’.

Ter Stegen, as a result, this afternoon went under the knife, ahead of what is expected to be a spell in the region of eight months on the sidelines.

Safe to say, then, that all of a sudden, Barcelona find themselves short on options between the posts.

Across the day to date, the Camp Nou brass have in turn been tipped to launch free agent moves for a whole host of goalkeepers.

And, as alluded to above, on Monday evening, one such player has publicly offered up his services to Barcelona.

Speaking in an interview with Winwinallsports, as cited by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, former Blaugrana shot-stopper Claudio Bravo announced:

”If Barcelona want me, I will be ready to come out of retirement.”

41-year-old Bravo, for his part, hung up his gloves earlier this summer, following the expiration of his contract with La Liga outfit Real Betis.
