Former Celtic loan talent Charly Musonda Jnr has confirmed that he is retiring at 28. The highly rated young talent never lived up to early hype as injuries took their toll.
In an interview with Rising Ballers, posted on Instagram, Musonda confirmed that he would be hanging up his boots.
Musonda was a strange one. Celtic tracked him for a while but lost out to him as he moved to Spain. They reignited their interest on a lengthy loan deal for 18 months.
Rodgers clearly didn’t fancy him and apart from a cameo versus Hearts and an assist versus Zenit, he failed to really showcase why he should be a regular in the first team. Despite arriving and playing to the fans by taking the ’67’ number, Musonda’s arrival evoked much excitement but in reality, he left most fans very underwhelmed.
The trajectory of his career after he left Celtic was alarming due to an awful knee injury sustained in the Netherlands with one of Chelsea’s affiliate teams. At the time, there was a chance that Musonda might not have played again given the severity of the injury. Although, he was able to work away and complete his rehab and get himself back onto the pitch. It appears now that the injury was too great for him to overcome.
