Former Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has revealed that he did not get on well with Ruud Van Nistelrooy at Leicester City. The 27-year-old has moved to Ligue 1 with Lens having left Crystal Palace.
Speaking to L’Equipe, Edouard took a swipe at the former Leicester manager, who contributed to bombing him out during his loan spell with The Foxes last year.
“The Premier League is indescribable. You have to experience it to understand, but then that went badly at Leicester.
“I didn’t get along well with Van Nistelrooy. I found myself blocked for seven months without playing. Having been a great striker doesn’t necessarily make you a great manager.”
Steve Cooper signed Edouard but he was soon disposed of with ex-United attacker Van Nistelrooy replacing him. It was an unhappy marriage and Leicester were relegated with the Dutchman sacked.
French Eddy is back in France plying his trade and he will be heartened by 3 goals in 6 appearances for his new side.
Edouard left Celtic in the summer of 2021 having scored 87 times and assisted 39 times for the club since arriving in a £9m deal back in 2017. Initially signed on a season-long loan, Edouard went from Celtic’s third choice behind Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths to a mainstay in the starting XI. He scored a brace as Celtic beat Rangers 5-0 to win 7IAR and conjured up some incredible moments during his time in the Hoops.
At various junctures in his Celtic career, Edouard was linked with a move to a number of top European teams. However, it never transpired and in that final summer at Celtic, Palace were the only ones willing to pay up for the Frenchman. Hopefully he can get himself back firing regularly.
