Ex-Corinthians defender Marquinhos sets Brazilian appearances record in Champions League

Marquinhos made his 121st UEFA Champions League appearance on Wednesday, becoming the Brazilian with the most games in the competition. The milestone came as Paris Saint-Germain faced Bayern Munich in the semi-final at the Allianz Arena in Germany.
According to Meu Timao, he moved past Roberto Carlos on 120. The top five is rounded out by Daniel Alves on 111, Thiago Silva on 105 and Fernandinho on 103.
The defender came through Corinthians’ academy and debuted for the senior side on 15 September 2011 in a friendly against Grêmio Osasco. He returned to the youth set-up the following year and was an important part of their 2012 Copinha triumph.
His first official outing arrived in the 2012 Paulistão, a 1-0 win over São Caetano. He played 15 games for the club, with seven wins, three draws and five defeats. Roma took him on loan in August 2012, then bought him six months later for R$ 8.2 million.
By mid 2013 he had joined PSG for 32 million euros and became one of the club’s leading figures. He captained their first Champions League title in 2024/25. Now 31, he holds the club appearance record with 519 matches.
A senior figure for Brazil, he has 104 caps, won the 2019 Copa América and featured at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. He could be involved in 2026. He has said that, if he returns to Brazil, he would like to rejoin Corinthians.
