Ex-Corinthians star shines in Italy, attracts top European clubs

After scoring a stunning goal in Hellas Verona’s 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan last Sunday (2nd), in the Italian Championship, forward Giovane, a former Corinthians player, is starting to attract the attention of major European clubs and could be on the move as early as the January 2026 transfer window.

According to ESPN, scouts from Milan and Borussia Dortmund were present at the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium, where the match took place, to closely observe the performance of the young Brazilian, who is only 21 years old and has been standing out for the Italian club.

Milan, in particular, is looking to strengthen its attacking sector and even made an inquiry to Palmeiras, Timão’s archrival, about forward Vitor Roque, but the negotiations did not progress. As a result, Giovane has become one of the alternatives being considered.

Still according to ESPN, Inter Milan and Napoli are also closely monitoring the striker’s development. The player’s staff is awaiting a possible offer as the reopening of the European market approaches. Hellas Verona, in turn, values the player at around 30 million euros (approximately R$ 185 million) and hopes to complete a sale in that price range.

Discovered in grassroots football, Giovane joined Corinthians in 2021 at the age of 18, on loan from Capivariano to strengthen the U-20 squad. The following year, he stood out in the São Paulo Junior Football Cup and earned a spot at the club, even training with the first team. His performance drew attention and, later in 2022, Corinthians purchased 65% of the player’s economic rights for about R$ 3 million.

Despite the investment and call-ups to the youth national teams, Giovane was unable to fully establish himself in the professional team. In total, he played 48 matches, scored four goals, and won the 2025 Paulista Championship wearing the black and white shirt. At the beginning of June, both parties reached a mutual termination agreement, and shortly after, the forward was officially announced by Hellas Verona.

Since joining the club in July 2025, after his contract with Corinthians ended, Giovane has played 12 matches, with three assists and one goal. His contract with Verona runs until the end of the 2028/29 season, and the forward remains one of the squad’s main assets.

In the agreement to terminate Giovane’s contract, Corinthians retained a percentage of the player’s rights, but did not disclose the amount. In addition, the club will also be entitled to a share of any future sale due to FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, since the forward was developed in Timão’s youth academy.
