Pressley played an influential role in advancing players such as Yehor Yarmoliuk, Ryan Trevitt, Ji-soo Kim, and Paris Maghoma from the B team to the senior playing squad.

Brentford confirmed Pressley’s exit on Thursday morning: “After careful consideration, I’ve decided it’s time for a new challenge in my career,” he told the club’s official website.

“I leave the club having formed some great friendships, great memories, and also being appreciative of the opportunity to work with some highly-skilled people, which has allowed me to learn and grow as a person.”

The Bee’s Director of Football, Phil Giles, remarked: “I’d like to thank Steven for his commitment to Brentford over the last 4 seasons.”

“As well as developing some of our best young players and having a meaningful impact on first-team performances in the Premier League, he’s been a top professional and a pleasure to get to know as a person. On behalf of everyone at Brentford, I wish him well in his future career.”

After transferring from Hearts in 2006, Pressley featured in 22 matches during his 18-month spell at the Hoops under Gordon Strachan.

During his time at Celtic Park, he secured two Scottish Premiership titles and earned an impressive 32 caps for the Scottish national team.

What the future holds for Pressley following his exit from the Gtech Community Stadium is still uncertain.

Pressley has been out of club management since 2019 following his departure at Carlisle United. His previous managerial roles included Pafos, Fleetwood Town, Coventry City and Falkirk.

With various vacancies available both in the Scottish Premiership and Championship, Pressley may be eyeing a move back to Scotland in some capacity.
