Former Leeds United number two Kristoffer Klaesson has retired at 25. The Norwegian made three senior appearances during his three years at Elland Road.

Aalesund said in a statement that he has decided to hang up his gloves and that his deal, which was due to run until 31 December 2028, has been mutually terminated. The club thanked Klaesson and wished him well.

Klaesson joined Leeds from Vålerenga in July 2021 for £1.5m. He came on for the injured Illan Meslier in a 3-2 Premier League win at Wolves, started once in the 2023/24 Championship due to a Meslier suspension and a Karl Darlow injury, and played an FA Cup tie at Peterborough United.

He left Leeds in summer 2024 by mutual termination and signed for Raków Częstochowa as a free agent. Fitness concerns meant the deal was cancelled within two months without an appearance.

The goalkeeper joined AGF in September 2024 and made one senior appearance, then moved to Viking in January 2025. He started 14 league games as Viking won the 2025 Eliteserien, before joining rivals Aalesund on a three-year contract in January this year.

Klaesson started all of Aalesund’s matches in the first part of the Eliteserien season before deciding to retire.
