Newly promoted Leeds United are considering a move to sign Chelsea left back Ben Chilwell according to reports.

Chilwell joined Chelsea back in 2020 for £50m from Leicester City and played a big role in the club winning their second Champions League title in 2021.

However, despite his quality, injuries have plagued his time at Stamford Bridge, and Chilwell will know his Chelsea career is over.

Leeds consider move for Ben Chilwell

Chilwell made 21 appearances in all competitions under Mauricio Pochettino, but it was quickly established he wouldn’t be part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.

The 28-year-old was sent to be part of the “bomb squad” before eventually returning to train with the first team, and his only appearance for the Blues last season was against Barrow in the Carabao Cup.

Chilwell completed a loan move to Crystal Palace in January, and made 12 appearances in all competitions, as well as being part of the squad which won the FA Cup.

It doesn’t look likely that Palace will make his move permanent, and Chelsea face a challenge finding Chilwell a new home.

Chilwell won the FA Cup during his time at Palace.

However, according to former Blackburn and Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, Leeds are considering a move.

“Ben Chilwell is going to leave Chelsea this summer,” he told Football Insider.

“From what I’m told, there are plenty of Premier League clubs looking at him.

“I’d be very surprised if he didn’t leave Chelsea before this window closes, so it’s one to keep an eye on.

“Leeds are one of the interested clubs and have been looking to strengthen at left-back.

“The manager is determined to strengthen his squad after getting promoted, and he wants to add more Premier League experience to help them out.

“So they’ll be keeping a close eye on Chilwell, because it might depend on how much Chelsea are asking for or what his wage demands are.

“But if he is allowed to leave, I hear they’ll be among the interested parties.”

Chelsea looking for new left back

With Chilwell heading for the exit door, Chelsea are looking for a left sided defender as they currently have no cover for Marc Cucurella.

Cucurella was outstanding for the Blues last season, but any injury to the Spain international would leave Chelsea facing a big problem.

Ajax star Jorrel Hato has been identified as a potential target, and talks are thought to have taken place, although no offer has been made, with the Dutch giants reportedly asking for £60m.
