Matteo Darmian broke a personal goal record with his opener in Inter Milan’s Serie A win over Lecce yesterday.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that the 34-year-old scored his fastest goal ever to give Inter an early lead.

Inter raced out of the blocks yesterday against Lecce.

The Nerazzurri were hungry for a win after failing to take three points in their Serie A opener against Genoa.

And a reward came in the form of an early goal.

It was Darmian who scored Inter’s opener. The former Manchester United and Torino defender found himself in the right place at the right time.

Federico Dimarco played a looping cross into the box from the left flank. Then, striker Mehdi Taremi got a telling touch to direct the ball into the path of Darmian.

The Italian international still had plenty of work to do.

But Darmian had enough time to track the flight of the ball and direct his header, which sailed past Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone.

Matteo Darmian Scores Fastest Goal Of Career In Inter Win Vs Lecce

Darmian is not exactly the most prolific of goalscorers. But he has shown that he can be decisive when he gets into the right positions.

The Italian international scored a couple of key goals on the way to the Serie A title in 2021.

Darmian scored in the second half in 1-0 wins over Hellas Verona and Cagliari during the run-in of that season.

However, this time around it was a much different story.

Darmian didn’t score in a tense second half. Rather, the 34-year-old found the back of the net right at the start of the first half, to take a lot of the pressure off of Inter right away.

Darmian’s goal came in the fourth minute and 46th second of play.

And as the Gazzetta highlights, that is the earliest in a match that Darmian has ever scored.
