Former Manchester United man Rasmus Hojlund was caught shoving Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus following Wednesday’s UEFA Nations League contest.

Aside from Manchester City’s guilty verdicts, Cristiano Ronaldo’s sudden departure from Portugal has been the biggest news of the long international break.

The 41-year-old led the line for the Selecao in their opening UEFA Nations League victory over Wales, but he was an unused substitute in Norway.

Ahead of Portugal’s third game against Denmark, CR7 shockingly announced his departure, hinting he was misled to believe he still has a prominent role to play for his national team.

Rasmus Hojlund shoves Jorge Jesus

Despite Ronaldo’s absence, his shadow still loomed large over Thursday’s thrilling contest in Copenhagen.

The Iberians led 2-1 at half-time thanks to goals from Joao Cancelo and Ronaldo’s replacement, Goncalo Ramos. After the break, Hojlund equalised for the Danes, but Vitinha and Joao Felix secured a 4-2 win for Jorge Jesus’ men.

After the game, the Portuguese head coach was involved in an awkward exchange with Hojlund, who appeared to have shoved the manager. While the Napoli striker was cutting a serious look, Jesus shrugged it off with a smile.

As The Sun explains, this episode left fans wondering what the 23-year-old was thinking.

Hojlund, who spent two forgettable campaigns at Man Utd between 2023 and 2025, is a major Ronaldo fan, describing the Portuguese superstar as his playing idol.

In fact, the Denmark international celebrated his goal by mimicking CR7’s iconic ‘SIUUU’ celebration, and not for the first time.

At this stage, one would imagine there’s a much more sensible explanation for this episode than Hojlund being upset with the Portuguese manager for his role in Ronaldo’s exit.

Perhaps the two men had crossed paths in the past, or this could be a callback to an earlier episode that occurred during the game.

That being said, a big, physical 23-year-old striker pushing a 72-year-old manager hardly makes for an inspiring scene, even with a playful tone.

Therefore, Hojlund should have been wiser to avoid this needless controversy while the cameras were still rolling.
