Manchester United’s ex-chief scout Mick Brown has verified speculation that a ‘final agreement’ for Ederson looks almost imminent.
It comes ahead of the window officially opening next month, which will also coincide with Casemiro’s contract expiring.

The Brazilian played his final game for United over a week ago in the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
It allowed Casemiro to enjoy an emotional and sincere send-off from the Old Trafford faithful in the side’s last home outing of the campaign.

Then, to fans’ surprise, it was agreed between him and Michael Carrick that he would not be involved matchweek 38 against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Casemiro is closing in on a switch to Inter Miami as a free agent, and has also now put his full focus on the upcoming World Cup with Brazil, where he’ll instantly reunite with Matheus Cunha.

Although Ederson doesn’t boast anywhere near the same European pedigree as the five-time Champions League winner he’s replacing, INEOS are confident he will be a hugely beneficial addition.
The 26-year-old has spent four years with Atalanta, most notably winning the Europa League in emphatic fashion back in 2023/2024.
He has frequently been linked with United over the past two years, so it’s clear the club’s interest is long-standing and hasn’t lessened as they’ve been continually scouting him.
Ederson was on the verge of signing for Atletico Madrid back in March after agreeing personal terms, but the Spanish giants were unwilling to shell out Atalanta’s asking fee.
That paved the way for United to swoop in and begin negotiating how a deal may look.
Speaking to Football Insider on the ongoing reports, Brown said: “Man United are moving quickly to replace Casemiro.
“I’m hearing they’re now in the latter stages of agreeing terms with the Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, and they’re looking to get that done soon.
“They’re talking about a fee of around £40million, maybe up to £45million, and that seems like a reasonable fee because they know they have to spend.”
