Former Napoli defender Ruud Krol feels that the Partenopei are the favourites to win the Serie A title, as Inter will focus on the Champions League: ‘Priorities are set.’
Inter and Napoli are level on 71 points at the top of the Serie A table with just five games remaining.
The latest round saw Inter lose 1-0 in Bologna, while Napoli beat strugglers Monza with the same result at the U-Power Stadium.
Inter have always been the bookmakers’ favourites in the race for the Scudetto, but the defending champions are still fighting for three trophies, including the Champions League. As a result, more and more fans using a promo code for Unibet have been looking to Napoli as potential 2024-25 Serie A winners.
“Those who aren’t used to winning risk finding themselves on the edge of a cliff. They look down and risk falling. Napoli, however, have Conte on the bench and many of their players have already won the title under Spalletti. Now they have a fresher mindset,” Krol told Il Mattino via TMW.
The former Dutch defender does not doubt that the Partenopei are now title favourites in Italy.
“I think Napoli [will win the Scudetto], mainly because of fatigue,” he argued.
“Inter are tired, and the second half against Bologna showed the real face of fighting on three fronts. They’ve lost sharpness. It’s not easy, and they are paying the price for it. At this stage, choices have been made and their priorities are set.”
The Nerazzurri knocked Bayern Munich out of the Champions League quarter-finals and will face Barcelona in the semifinals with the first leg played on April 30 in Spain.
“The Champions League comes before anything else. If they had a three or four-point lead over Napoli, it would have been different,” said Krol.
“Now it’s head-to-head, and everyone will be thinking about saving energy for the games of the year against Barcelona. It’s human nature. By choosing to focus on the Champions League, they risk neglecting the league.”

Napoli, however, have recently been shaken by Antonio Conte’s complaints, as the Italian tactician moaned about the club’s management tools at his disposal being given in the race for the title.
“He’s right to do so, and there’s no problem in doing it,” Krol concluded.
“The squad isn’t deep enough. If he says so, where’s the issue?”
Conte is under contract at the Stadio Maradona until June 2027, but several sources in Italy claim that the coach and Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis will sit down at the end of the season to discuss his future at the club.
Meanwhile, Partenopei fans dream of winning their second Serie A title in three seasons.
