Newcastle United fans heading to the match on Sunday, may well see one of our former strikers manning a stall handing out new West Ham shirts in exchange for old.

A good test on your knowledge (if you were around when the last NUFC promotion happened) of Newcastle United.

This striker was signed by Aston Villa for £4m from West Ham in 2007, then on 24 September 2009 he signed for Chris Hughton on loan.

In 15 appearances this forward scored five goals, to help Newcastle United end up as winners of the 2009/10 Championship.

Yes, manning Sunday’s stall outside the London Stadium offering new West Ham shirts for old, is Marlon Harewood.

With the mood amongst West Ham fans as it is at the moment, the sheer hatred they have towards the likes of Karren Brady and David Sullivan for their running of the club, they may well find Hammers fans throwing this season’s West Ham shirt away, rather than getting excited about getting their hands on one for free/exchange for an old one.

West Ham fans have planned a range of protests against the club hierarchy and after asking their supporters to boycott the last home game against Brentford, on Sunday they are asking Hammers fans to stage a sit in protest after the final whistle goes against Newcastle.

Official West Ham announcement – 29 October 2025:

West Ham United fans have a unique chance to grab one of this season’s home shirts by trading in an old shirt at a shirt swap market stall run by the club’s Principal Partner, BOYLE Sports, this weekend.

Hammers supporters aged 18 and older attending the home clash with Newcastle United at London Stadium on Sunday will be able to visit the stall before the match, with a limited number of this season’s home shirts up for grabs when you exchange it for one of your old shirts!

To mark the occasion, the BOYLE Sports shirt swap market stall will be manned by former West Ham United striker, Marlon Harewood, who will be on hand to meet fans and hand out the new shirts.

The stall will be open from 11am and situated next to the iconic Olympic Bell. Fans who miss out on the one of the new shirts will still be able to trade in their old kits for up to a £30 discount on a new 2025/26 replica shirt at the West Ham United Stadium Store. Supporters will be able to complete their trade-in at the stall via Birl’s online portal then redeem their credit in-store.

Every shirt handed in on the day will be recycled and repurposed by sustainability supplier, Birl, ensuring the initiative leaves a lasting impact beyond matchday. The old shirts will be transformed into new West Ham-inspired apparel and accessories, giving cherished colours a second life and keeping fabric in circulation.

West Ham United became the first Premier League team to work with Birl, launching ahead of the 2025/26 season which has enabled fans to exchange old shirts for a discount on the new one.

Commenting ahead of the activation, Liam McKee, Head of Sponsorship at BOYLE Sports said: “Our relationship with West Ham is built on passion, pride and community – and that’s what the Shirt Swap market stall is all about. We want to give fans a chance to get their hands on the new shirt, show off their passion and do something positive for the planet.

“From giving away scarves at the first home match of the season, to taking over Stratford Station and our branded taxis providing transport for fans, we’ve loved being part of the matchday experience and the Shirt Swap takes that to another level.”

Former West Ham United striker and Club Ambassador Marlon Harewood added: “I played in so many iconic shirts during my time at West Ham and this year’s home shirt is another great design, so I am looking forward to giving plenty of new shirts to Hammers fans this weekend. I think the shirt swap initiative the Club and BOYLE Sports are leading on is a fantastic way to champion sustainability and engage with supporters, I am excited to be part of it!”
