Former Premier League footballer Robbie Savage has warned Chelsea they will struggle to challenge for the title unless the managerial merry go round at the club stops.

The Blues once again changed managers this summer with Mauricio Pochettino departing after just one season in charge and being replaced by Enzo Maresca.

Maresca, who guided Leicester City to the Championship title last season has signed a five year deal at Stamford Bridge and will be under pressure to win silverware and guide the Blues back into the Champions League.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital spoke of a long term project when they took over in 2022 but just over two years later they are already on their fourth permanent manager, and fifth if you include Frank Lampard’s interim spell in charge.

Pochettino to the surprise of some left after a strong second half of the season saw the Blues secure a top six finish and a return to European football.

What Chelsea need now more than ever is patience and some stability at the club given all the upheaval over the past two years.

Maresca signed a five year deal at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Maresca has been appointed with a long term vision and because he plays a style of football the club want to implement, with the Blues hoping the Italian can be the man to get them challenging at the top end of the table again.

Savage has warned Chelsea they need to stop changing manager if they are to get back challenging at the top end of the table.

“Personally, I would have stuck with Pochettino because he appeared to be building some momentum at the end of last season,” he told The Mirror.
