Neil Warnock has been spotted with the Prince of Wales this week

EFL icon and former Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield United manager, Neil Warnock, met with Prince William earlier this week, with the charismatic former boss dropping a hilarious social media post afterwards.

By supporters of many clubs within the Championship, League One and League Two, Warnock himself would be described as managerial 'royalty' due to his long-standing work within the game, as well as the plethora of iconic and comedic moments which have come right throughout his career, which began in 1980 as he initially took charge of Gainsborough Trinity for a one-year period.

45 years later, the Sheffield native is one of the most highly-respected figures in the English game, and is best known for his managerial stints which have come in the Championship at Loftus Road, Bramall Lane and other sides such as Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Rotherham United, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town.

At present, the 76-year-old is still engaged with the self-proclaimed 'beautiful game', as he currently oversees matters at Torquay United of the National League South as a non-executive director/football advisor, and has done so since a takeover at Plainmoor by the club's current ownership consortium in May 2024.

The Devon side were, of course, a League Two side as recently as the 2013/14 campaign. The Gulls' predicament has never stopped the Yorkshireman from offering strong, and often hilarious, verdicts on EFL sides, often being a panelist on Sky Sports' live broadcast or the staple that is Soccer Saturday with Simon Thomas and previously, Jeff Stelling.

However, his latest whereabouts at Cornwall-based side, Mousehole AFC, saw him link up with the Prince of Wales in an event which celebrated the 42-year-old aiding the non-league side due to off-pitch matters.

Indeed, a report from the Sun revealed that Prince William has helped the non-league outfit resolve a long-standing pothole issue on the road leading up to their Trungle Parc ground, with restorations aided through several donations from several companies.

In order to mark the unveiling of the new road, HRH was invited to the stadium in order to publicise the event with players and staff, with Warnock also present, some 14 years after he helped Rangers lift the Championship title at the end of the 2010/11 season alongside star names such as Adel Taarabt - five years after also achieving automatic promotion with his beloved Blades.

Unsurprisingly, given his notoriety within English football, the experienced figure was quick to share the occasion with his hundreds of thousands of followers on X, posting a picture of himself alongside Prince William on the pitch at Mousehole.

A rather hilarious caption read: "Always happy to oblige when a fan wants a selfie," followed by a laughing emoji.

Again, to the surprise of very few, such events meant Warnock's feed was flooded with comments, which included a hilarious remark which pointed out to Warnock that he, indeed, had not taken a 'selfie' as such, with the well-known Aston Villa supporter.

Prince William is no stranger to the EFL despite Aston Villa's current situation

Despite growing up in Berkshire, Prince William revealed exactly why he chose to follow the Villans in an interview back in 2015.

"A long time ago at school I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the run of the mill teams,” he said.

“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments."

Despite the Birmingham outfit's current predicament as European regulars under Unai Emery, the Prince will certainly remember Villa's recent three-year spell in the Championship with rather mixed feelings.

Between 2016 and 2019, the Villans endured a first EFL spell since 1988 under Graham Taylor, with Dean Smith eventually the man to guide the club back to the Premier League after a play-off success against Derby County.

Warnock's teams will also live in the memory of the 43-year-old, who was present at Villa Park in April 2018 during a promotion six-pointer between his side and Cardiff City, who the iconic boss would eventually guide to promotion just weeks later, despite being on the receiving end of a Jack Grealish stunner in front of the Holte End.
