Xabi Alonso, sacked by Real Madrid earlier this season, is tempted by the prospect of linking up with Premier League giants Chelsea for the 2026/27 campaign.
That’s according to The Athletic, who have on Monday provided a fresh insight into the future of the Spanish tactician.
Alonso was of course only appointed as Real Madrid headmaster last summer, after a stellar job on the bench at Bayer Leverkusen.
Just seven months into his contract at the Bernabéu, though, the one-time midfielder was sent on his way by Florentino Pérez and co.
Alonso has been out of work since, but is understood to be more than ready for a fresh challenge.
And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media on Monday is anything to go by, then precisely as much could yet be found in England.
As per a report from The Athletic:
‘Chelsea are exploring a deal to appoint Xabi Alonso as the club’s new head coach. The Spaniard is open to the possibility, but at this stage nothing is decided.’
