A lot has been said about Vinicius Jr after the player received a period of sustained boos at Santiago Bernabeu, leaving the player completely frustrated.

The boos were loud and sustained, coming at a time when the forward had been stalling contract negotiations with Real Madrid.

In the wake of the recent events at Santiago Bernabeu, Jorge Valdano, former player, coach and CEO at Real Madrid, offered his thoughts on Vinicius Jr.

What Valdano said about Vinicius

Speaking to Movistar (h/t Defensa Central), Valdano explained that Vinicius has faced criticism before, and it is only natural that he will recover.

“He’ll resolve it by playing. He’s gone many games without scoring goals, without having the same impact on the field as before. That contributes to the fans’ dissatisfaction. As soon as he’s able to recover his form, he’ll regain applause,” he said.

Valdano went on to point out that Vinicius is not the first player to face jeers from his own supporters at the Bernabeu, which is usually a stadium that demands the absolute best.

“I must say that what Vinicius Jr. has experienced is something half of the footballing world has experienced at the Bernabéu. The Bernabeu is not an easy stadium when things aren’t going well, and he is now suffering the consequences,” he said.

Finally, the Argentine referenced him as an example, stating how it is important not to hide behind the jeers.

I was also booed for a long time. It was tough, but in those moments, you need to stay cool and have the courage to ask for the ball at all times. Don’t hide, because then you’re not good enough for this club,” he concluded.

Currently in Dubai for a promotional event, Vinicius Jr. is expected to be back at Valdebebas on December 29, just a day before Real Madrid’s planned training session on December 30.
