Ex-Real Madrid star explains why he would sign Pedri over Lamine Yamal: ‘Class and culture’ | OneFootball

Former Real Madrid star Iván Zamorano has provided an insight into why he would choose to sign Pedri from Barcelona, rather than Lamine Yamal.

The Chilean this week sat down for an appearance on Josep Pedrerol’s ‘El Cafelito’ programme (as cited by Diario Sport).

During the discussion, a whole host of topics were put to Zamorano, considered a legend amongst many of a Real Madrid persuasion.

One such topic saw the 58-year-old asked to choose one Barcelona player whom he would choose to take across the Clásico divide.

And Zamorano was quick to rule out Blaugrana sensation Lamine Yamal, in explaining:

“I would not sign Lamine Yamal for Real Madrid, because he is not the essence or the soul of what a Real player is. Real Madrid are a team with class and culture. The players who play for Madrid have to represent that.”

Instead, Zamorano made clear that his no.1 target at Barcelona would be midfield standout Pedri:

“I would sign Pedri, who is a crack and a phenomenon… and without speaking. He is humble, simple and speaks just right. Pedri has the essence and soul of Real Madrid.”
