According to Diario Do Peixe, former Santos forward Luca Meirelles has won the Ukrainian title in his first season with Shakhtar Donetsk. The crown was sealed with a 4-0 win over Poltava on Sunday, with three rounds remaining.
A Santos academy graduate, he was sold in August last year after a sequence of youth national-team call-ups and prolific tournament scoring.
Born in March 2007, Meirelles joined Santos in 2018 via a Goiânia school and rose through the age groups, making marked progress from 2022. He was promoted to the first team at the start of last year but had limited minutes.
This season he has played 26 matches for Shakhtar, scoring 10 and providing two assists. The club also reached the Conference League semi-finals, where Crystal Palace of England knocked them out.
Meirelles said lifting silverware with one of the country’s giants left him very happy, adding that a strong campaign earned an early coronation. He called his first year very positive and said they aim to finish the season as well as possible.
