Ex-striker hails Gui Negão, urges caution with comparisons

Young striker Gui Negão is experiencing a special moment at Corinthians. Amid many absences in the offensive sector, the center forward has risen and established himself as a solid option for coach Dorival Júnior. In an interview with the podcast Alambrado Alvinegro, Finazzi, former striker and coach of Timão's under-16 team, spoke about how it was to follow jersey number 56 in the youth categories and heaped praise on the Corinthians gem.

"He didn't get to train with us. We followed several of Gui's (Negão) matches in the Under-20s and he was decisive in many games. He, Dieguinho, was one of the main players in that category last year. So, we followed him quite a bit.", began the former player.

"First of all, he's a sensational guy. I think that helps a lot. Spectacular. Cool, humble, simple, awesome. Everyone roots for him, really likes him. Besides that, he's very dedicated, focused knows what he wants and is succeeding. Of course, there will be some difficulties. The adaptation is normal, even because of his age. I root a lot for his success.", he continued.

Despite the praise directed at the 18-year-old striker, Finazzi emphasized the need to be patient with Gui Negão's meteoric rise and with the comparisons made with other athletes. The former striker stressed the need to let the adaptation happen naturally.

"I think some of these comparisons, we need to take it easy, right? People compare him with players who have already had a career, right? Who have already made a career and he is still very much at the beginning. So, I think those who like to make comparisons, fine, but without putting too much pressure.", he said.

"I think we need to take it easy, right? But, the future will tell how far he will go, but the hope is great that he will succeed, adapting and taking advantage of opportunities.", concluded the current coach of the under-16 team.

Promoted this year, Gui Negão has already made nine appearances for Corinthians' professional team, five of them as a starter. During this period, he scored three goals, with three victories, two draws, and four losses.
