'Exceptional' Liverpool star is finished as major news emerges

Liverpool have a lot of players among their ranks at the moment that they need to upgrade.

The Anfield outfit may have spent around £600 million over the last couple of transfer windows but, with how much their title rivals are upgrading their teams, the Reds always seem to be behind.

Luckily for them, they did manage to upgrade certain areas of their squad that were in desperate need of rejuvenation.

However, with how poorly some of their first-team squad have performed this term, more change is still needed.

Obviously, all these transfers can't come to fruition at once, especially without the sales of some of their own players.

So, the fact that one of the Reds' men could now be finished at Anfield makes a lot of sense.

Harvey Elliott was left out of Valencia's squad on Saturday

When Jurgen Klopp was in charge, Harvey Elliott was one of his favourite players.

The midfielder was brought to Anfield by the German and, although he spent a season on loan to Blackburn Rovers at the start of his career, he was often used by Klopp whenever he could be.

Indeed, his appearances started to slow down after his injury in the 2021-22 season with the midfielder seeming to lose a lot of his pace.

From that point on, he's been on the outskirts of Liverpool's first-team squad with Arne Slot barely playing him.

Most people thought that Elliott would get given a chance by Andoni Iraola but, again, he failed to meet expectations and was sent out on loan to Valencia instead.

This loan move is arguably his last chance to forge a career for himself at Liverpool but, now that Carlos Corberan has been sacked, it feels like he's going to get much less playing time.

Obviously, he's still going to be a part of their squad but, after he was left out of Valencia's starting XI and not even brought on off the bench on Saturday in their first win of the season, it's clear to see why the "exceptional" attacker could now be finished.

Harvey Elliott must figure out how to get back to his best before returning to Liverpool

As mentioned, Elliott was Klopp's star boy.

No matter where the German used him, the Englishman always seemed to put on an incredible performance.

Naturally, he started his career off as a right-winger but, as he got older, the number 10 became his favoured position.

But, since players such as Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai were brought through the Anfield doors, his opportunities became limited which definitely didn't help his development all that much.

And, even after moving to Aston Villa to try and get his career on track, Unai Emery decided he wasn't good enough to warrant the £35 million option to buy that they had in his loan deal.

So, since there's no buy-clause in his deal with Valencia, he's going to make his Liverpool return but, before that happens, he needs to try and get back to his best.

If the 23-year-old doesn't manage to do that, there's no way that Iraola will keep him around, especially with the recent players that they've been linked with.

Obviously, there's still the vast majority of the season left for Elliott to get things back on track but, for now, him being left out of Valenica's starting XI on Saturday and Corberan being relieved of his duties makes it feel like the Englishman is finished.
