It was quite an entertaining match as FC Barcelona defeated the Serbian side Red Star Belgrade in their latest UEFA Champions League encounter.
The Blaugrana opened the scoring through Iñigo Martínez, who netted his team’s first goal in the 13th minute. However, the hosts equalized through Silas 14 minutes later, and Serbian coach Vladan Milojević’s happiness was clearly visible on this occasion.
However, his team was unable to keep up with the Catalans, as the match ended with a 5-2 scoreline. The Red Star Belgrade coach had already predicted a loss for his side in the pre-match press conference.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Serbian tactician was happy with his team’s performance despite this loss, as he commented after the match:
“We fought as hard as we could… I’m happy as a coach, regardless of the outcome… Football is a game of mistakes. I’m proud of the coaching staff. We prepared for the match as we wanted, but Barcelona, as you know, is a team that controls every aspect of the game.”
Milejovic went on to praise Barcelona, and wanted his team to learn from the Blaugranes: “Tomorrow is a new day. Barcelona showed that they are an exceptional team; we can learn a lot from them.”
It is easy to understand why Milejovic wants his players to learn from Barcelona, as the Catalans have been one of the best teams in Europe this season.
With their victory over Red Star Belgrade, Barcelona are now standing sixth in the UEFA Champions League table, with their path clear to directly qualify for the Round of 16.
Hopefully, the Blaugranes will win the rest of their 4 matches in the League Phase with the same spirit they have shown up to now, and qualify for the next round of the competition with some games to spare.
