There are now 11 parties showing serious interest in a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday
A US billionaire has become the latest figure to be shown around Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium amid takeover interest.
According to The Star, there are now 11 interested parties in purchasing the Championship side after they went into administration in late October.
A number of these prospective buyers have now been shown around the ground, as Begbies Traynor oversee the transition away from the Dejphon Chansiri era.
The Thai businessman became a wildly unpopular figure at the Yorkshire outfit due to his mismanagement of the club’s finances, which has led to administration and an automatic 12 point deduction penalty from the EFL.
No preferred bidder has yet been named, with the deadline approaching for potential buyers to make their interest clear by providing a proof of funds.

A number of suitors are believed to have been shown around Sheffield Wednesday’s home stadium amid serious interest in a takeover from up to 11 parties.
A reported soft deadline of 21 November has been set for bidders to make an indicative offer to buy the Championship side.
It’s understood that former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is still among the people considering a takeover at this stage.
John McEvoy is believed to be the latest interested party to be shown around Hillsborough, with it being reported earlier this month that he is considering a bid to take over the club.
It’s also been claimed that a mystery US-based group were given a tour following the draw at home to Norwich City on 5 November, which they were also in attendance for.
It is hoped that this preferred bidder will be named by 5 December, giving supporters some optimism that this process will be swift.
Sheffield Wednesday are bottom of the Championship table after 15 games, with Henrik Pedersen’s side 17 points adrift of safety.
Sheffield Wednesday supporters have protested Chansiri’s ownership of the club on numerous occasions this year, so there will be a lot of delight that his time in charge is over.
But the uncertainty of what’s next will also be on their minds, and the fact there are currently 11 interested parties showing interest will be massively encouraging.
It’s far from guaranteed they will be pleased with whoever takes over in the long run, but the short-term gain of moving on from Chansiri will be a huge relief.
It’s been reported that a £50 million proof of funds is required to be considered, and 11 parties already doing that is a sign there is genuine interest from well-funded groups to turn the club around.
