Liverpool’s summer rebuild under Arne Slot is beginning to take shape, with Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz emerging as major targets.

We spoke to Sky Sports Germany reporter Kerry Hau who stated that Frmpong’s move to Anfield is advancing quickly whilst Wirtz’s future remains open despite strong interest from Bayern Munich.

“HE ONLY HAS ONE SETTING” – SCOTTISH FOOTBALL EXPERT ON LIVERPOOL LINKED JEREMIE FRIMPONG

Liverpool are ready to trigger Frimpong’s £30 million release clause, with personal terms unlikely to be an issue, as Hau reports. A deal could be completed within days, with the player eager for a new chapter…

“Definitely Frimpong wants to start a new chapter, and it is a very tempting opportunity. After Trent leaves the club, it will be a very good transfer for both sides- Liverpool and the player himself.”

Frimpong nearly left last summer but was convinced to stay another year. This time, however, Leverkusen are not expected to stand in his way.

“Transfer expected in the next week or so. No complications for Leverkusen- they know he wants to play in the Premier League.”

A dynamic and attacking wing-back, Frimpong has flourished under Xabi Alonso in a system built around a back three. His speed, goal threat and flexibility make him a strong fit for Liverpool’s evolving system.

Hau stated, “he has developed well in the past year. He is fast, skilful and scores a lot of goals,” and has also labelled him as a “very flexible player”.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving the club, Frimpong could bring energy and depth on the right, offering tactical variety at a reasonable price.

Florian Wirtz, meanwhile, remains undecided on his future.

Though Bayern Munich see itself as the favourite, Hau says the player and his camp are keeping open communication with the Reds and Manchester City.

“From Leverkusen’s view, they would prefer to sell a team in the Premier League, not to strengthen a direct opponent in the Bundesliga, and we have had a similar situation a few years ago with Kai Havertz.”

The price, however, remains steep. Wirtz is valued at €150 million, and there is little room for negotiation. This hefty sum may rule out Bayern, which faces financial constraints.

“The fee will be difficult for Bayern Munich because they don’t have substantial investment, and Leverkusen will make it really difficult to go there.”

Wirtz is considered one of Germany’s top talents- not just a creative force, but a hard-working midfielder suited for English football.

“He is one of the best in the German national team alongside Jamal Musiala. He works against the ball and is not just a playmaker. That’s why he will fit into the Premier League.”

With Xabi Alonso’s departure confirmed, Hau believes Wirtz could see this as the right time to move on.

“I think he has finished with Leverkusen. It is time for him to take the next step and get out of his comfort zone.”

A year ago, there were rumours that the player would renew his contract and as that hasn’t happened, it is becoming increasingly likely that he will exit this summer, but the question remains who.
