News of Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez’s shock transfer to PSG hit Barcelona and the club’s management hard, for the youngster was one of the academy talents provided with many opportunities under Hansi Flick.
The Blaugrana, needless to say, are now seriously alert to the situations of all their young talents. After all, losing them for relatively cheap transfer fees after investing heavily in their development is best avoided.
Marc Bernal, unsurprisingly, is now one of the players the Catalans are the most worried about, for they consider him to be one of the academy’s biggest gems, and they simply cannot afford to lose him.
According to exclusive information provided by Spanish journalist Adrian Sanchez to Barça Universal, Bernal has no intention of leaving Barcelona anytime in the near future.
The young midfield star is set on his desire to succeed in the garnet and blue colours and is willing to fight it out to earn his spot in Hansi Flick’s plans.

There is no possibility of a departure being initiated from his side, as was the case with Dro.
There was talk of the player potentially leaving on loan to see more minutes and get back to speed, but Bernal is opposed to that too and wishes to stay in Barcelona.
Any loan move will happen only if the club explicitly push him to move out and play for a new team to further his development. As it stands, however, that looks unlikely.
As one of the leaders of all of Barcelona’s youth category teams over the years, the club know well of Bernal’s potential and see him to be a long-term solution to the defensive midfield puzzle.
An ACL injury kept him out for a long time, but he is now slowly gathering confidence, as is evident from his progression in recent weeks. Should he continue to rediscover his form, he may be in serious conversations to be a starter for the club by next season.
