The ambitious Second City club unveiled plans for a new 62,000-capacity ‘Powerhouse’ arena last week.

The 12 chimneys, which form a significant part of the structure, will make it a signature development for the city as it is housed on the site of a former brickworks.

The estimated £750m annual revenue generated by the 135-acre site will enable the club to advance its claims to be a significant force in the domestic game.

Birmingham’s owners have crunched the numbers and are convinced that the cash flooding into the club will catapult them among the elite, Football League World has exclusively been told.

Their calculations include a huge naming rights deal for the ‘Powerhouse’ which was released to the public along with a logo that will adorn corporate marketing material.

And with the additional revenue-generating capacity of the Premier League to help them, the decision-makers believe the club will be competitive.

A senior figure at Birmingham City said: “We have carried out our own research into this and we can say with reasonable confidence that the forecasted revenues will enable us to compete with those at the top end of the game.

“Potentially, with the commercial partners we believe we can attract, we can certainly be in the top-half in revenue generation, if not better than that.

“Obviously, we need to reach the Premier League to realise this but we are convinced this is going to be one of the great footballing stories - potentially anywhere - for the next decade.”

Meanwhile, home-town boy Demarai Gray has revealed that he was courted by Premier League suitors before penning a deal to return to the club where it all started for him.

Gray said: “I’m happy with my decision.

Birmingham was always my first choice with the direction the club were going.

“It was kind of the only one I was going to make but I want to let the fans know that I’m here for real and I’m going to take the team as far as I can.

“I met a Premier League team who were interested and some teams abroad before I came here but I wasn’t interested.

“It was the ambition, coming here, just playing again. That’s what I was interested in.”

The stadium designs are finalised, the predicted revenue generation as a result have been calculated, all that is left is for Birmingham City's players and coaching staff to deliver results on the pitch.

It goes without saying that Blues boss Chris Davies and his players are all fully aware of the riches that Premier League promotion brings, and have felt the burning flame of ambition from inside the football club for some time now.

As such, they already know that the pressure is on to take the club back to the promised land in time for the scheduled 2030/31 inaugural season in their new home.

However, this added revelation surrounding how much money the club, and the area itself will generate, but only if the club are in the Premier League, will only serve to add some extra weight of pressure on all involved with first-team side.

But, Davies and his players do have time on their side for now, and with Brum firmly in the play-off mix through the opening third of the current campaign, Blues appear on track for a top flight return in the near future.
