Blues could be about to add two new wingers to their ranks before the deadline
Birmingham City are chasing a loan deal for Sunderland’s Patrick Roberts - and have not given up on signing Celtic’s Yang Hyun-jun, Football League World can exclusively reveal.
The St Andrew’s club is pushing ahead with both deals as Chris Davies seeks additional firepower in the final third.
And ahead of 7pm's deadline where the window closes until January, Brum look set to finally land a left-footed winger to add some more balance to their attacking options.
Roberts, 28, was an integral part of the Black Cats’ side that helped earn promotion to the Premier League last season, appearing in 48 of Sunderland's 49 matches across the Championship and the three play-off encounters - he did not start in the final however against Sheffield United, and he may have played his final match for them, at least for this season.
A string of signings on Wearside, such as Chemsdine Talbi and Simon Adingra, has pushed the former Fulham forward down the pecking order of Regis Le Bris at the Stadium of Light.
The Birmingham hierarchy are anxious to give Davies added ammunition after a defeat at Leicester last week highlighted their need for a player with the guile to open up defences, and Roberts fits that brief - while they are still chasing a move for Yang.
Derby County had emerged as possible rivals for former Celtic dynamo Roberts, but that interest was lodged before the Rams signed Ben Brereton Diaz.
John Eustace was interested in snagging Roberts from the Black Cats, but it appears that Brum remains his first-choice destination.
Yang meanwhile was left on the Celtic bench by Brendan Rodgers during the drab 0-0 Old Firm derby at the weekend against Rangers, prompting questions as to whether he was being kept out of the fray deliberately, pending a move south.
Davies had asked his recruitment team to find him two wingers, and it appears that they have come up trumps, and they are just awaiting the green light from Celtic Park to get that deal done - FLW excusively broke that news last week.
