The 23-year-old has made 50 Premier League appearances for Wanderers in the past two seasons but struggled for game time following Vitor Pereira’s appointment in December.

Chris Davies’ side have been linked to the likes of Demarai Gray and Kyogo Furuhashi in recent times as they prepare for life back in the Championship and are now preparing to add Doyle to that mix.

Football League World have exclusively been told that Birmingham City are set to win the race for Doyle’s services next season.

The deal includes an option to sign the player permanently in the future following the expiration of his loan.

The likes of Sunderland and Wrexham were believed to be keen on securing a temporary move for the midfielder this summer but have been beaten out by Birmingham.

The 23-year-old last competed in the second-tier for Sheffield United in the 2022/23 campaign, making 38 appearances as the Blades secured promotion to the top-flight and reached the FA Cup semi-final.

Doyle has proven to be a capable operator in the Premier League but after not fitting into Pereira’s system, has chosen to get back to his best with Birmingham in the Championship.

Wolves only completed the midfielder’s permanent signing last summer, with Doyle contracted to the club until 2028 after spending his first year at the Molineux Stadium on loan from Manchester City.

Coming through City’s esteemed academy system, Doyle enjoys an excellent passing rage and would be a huge asset for Davies and Co. next season.

Furthermore, beating out the likes of Sunderland and Wrexham highlights the belief those involved with the game hold in Birmingham’s exciting project.

The 23-year-old has also featured in the Championship for Cardiff City during the 2021/22 campaign, making 19 appearances for the Bluebirds as they finished 18th.
