With former Marseille and Canadian international midfielder having taken the Serie A by storm since having joined the Nerroverdi only six months ago, Get Italian Football News can exclusively reveal that Ismael Kone has no intentions of departing Sassuolo in the January market.
The GIFN team comprehends that after having joined Sassuolo last summer on a loan from Marseille with an option to buy that can become an obligation if the Nerroverdi avoid relegation, the 22 year-old is happy at Sassuolo and has a very good relationship with Fabio Grosso and does not seek an early termination of the €12.5m loan operation in order to part ways prematurely after having attracted an amass amount of suitors.
So far this season, Kone has risen to the occasion for Sassuolo, having scored three goals in 15 games-played in the Serie A thus far, playing an instrumental role under Grosso in the three-man midfield.
Whilst it has been revealed that several Premier League sides and Serie A clubs have made inquiries, Ismael Kone does not want to depart Sassuolo during the winter mercato as he seeks to weigh out his options.
As it stands, Kone’s contract includes a clause where he is guaranteed to start more than half of the Serie A games this season, guaranteeing an excess amount of playing time and exposure.
In addition, with the 2026 World Cup underway this summer, an impressive display at the world-wide tournament will indeed further gain the attention of more suitors, increasing Kone’s potential options ahead of next year’s campaign.
Whilst it has been reported that Juventus and Inter are monitoring the situation very closely, it is confirmed that Roma are indeed showing concrete interest, an interest that has spurred since last summer since the arrival of Ricky Massara as sporting director as the Giallorossi whom influenced Kone in joining Rennes on a six-month loan last season following the Canadian’s fall-out with coach Roberto De Zerbi at Marseille during the director’s short stint in the Ligue 1.
Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is fond of Kone and whilst it is uncertain if Lorenzo Pellegrini will renew with Roma given that his contract expires at the end of the season, it remains a possibility that Kone could serve as the replacement if a void within the midfield department occurs.
