It was reported by Alex Crook earlier this week that the Blues are closing in on an agreement for the goalkeeper with Brighton.

The shot-stopper spent last season on loan with Sheffield Wednesday, where he made 38 appearances in the Championship, helping the Owls finish 12th in the table.

However, he was dropped for the final eight games of the campaign prior to returning to the Seagulls.

Goodman has highlighted James Trafford’s improvement in form last season with Burnley as an example that Beadle could follow after a disappointing end to the campaign.

He believes the 20-year-old has the potential to be a very good signing for Birmingham, and he is looking forward to the competition for game time in Chris Davies’ side with Ryan Allsop.

“I think Birmingham City are looking at the potential of James Beadle,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.

“Obviously played, started 38 Championship games for Sheffield Wednesday last season, was taken out for the last eight because things hadn’t really gone particularly well, there were one or two errors in there.

“Looked a little bit shaky at times, so it was a little bit understandable that Danny Rohl would take him out of the firing line.

“But there’s no doubt about his potential, he’s got a summer in the England U21 squads, and that highlights the ability, there’s no doubt about that.

“And he can take confidence from what just happened to James Trafford, because he just had a real struggle in the Premier League the season before last, and then last season was the best goalkeeper in the Championship.

“So, big signing, good signing and it will be a good competition between him and Ryan Allsop for the number one jersey.”

Beadle loan deal could be a smart move by Birmingham

Beadle is undeniably talented, and has a lot of potential to become a top goalkeeper, so this could be a smart bit of business.

While the end of his season was disappointing, being dropped would’ve hit his confidence, he now has the summer to build himself back up.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding Birmingham, and walking into an environment like that could be quite invigorating.

This could be a great next step in his career, and a permanent move to St. Andrew’s could be on the cards in the long run if he can prove himself in Davies’ side.
