The experienced pair are available as free agents after leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season, and a The Telegraph's John Percy revealed that both are set to join Derby County.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman was asked for his thoughts on the swoop for the experienced duo, and he noted that the transfer strategy reflects the confidence Eustace has in players he has previously worked with.

"It's a case of a new manager trusting players they have worked with before, and in Danny Batth and Andi Weimann's case, John Eustace has clearly enjoyed working with them last season at Blackburn."

Experience versus squad age concerns

While welcoming familiar faces carries its positives, Goodman expressed some reservations about Derby's overall squad composition, pointing out the Rams' "ageing squad."

"I think there are 10 or 11 30+ year old outfielders," mentioned Goodman, and suggested the club might ideally want to introduce younger players.

Still, Goodman acknowledged the value these signings bring, especially given their recent performances: "Danny Batth had a great season at the age of 34, Andi Weimann probably an even better season at the age of 33 where, I think he only started 15 or so games for Blackburn in the Championship and scored seven goals and god two assists, he was very much an impact player."

However, Goodman added a note of caution about their roles: "If the two are brought in to be squad players, then absolutely, fair enough. However, if they are coming in to start week in and week out, I would be slightly surprised by that."

Strengthening the Rams' ranks with experience

Bringing in experienced professionals in Weimann and Batth is part of a broader push by Eustace, who took charge in February and has since been shaping a squad to suit his style.

Alongside Weimann and Batth, Derby have agreed a fee to sign striker Carlton Morris from Luton Town, aiming to bolster attacking options following the departure of top scorer Jerry Yates back to Swansea City.

In addition, Football Insider reports that the club are interested in 20-year-old Liverpool left-back Owen Beck, another player who spent time at Blackburn under Eustace.

Although the squad remains one of the oldest in the Championship, adding seasoned pros in Weimann and Batth fits Eustace's plan to balance experience with ambition.

After securing Championship survival, Derby hope to climb the second tier ladder next term, and familiar faces for Eustace will bring absolutely no harm when it comes to doing that.
