Don Goodman has commented on Henrik Pedersen extending his stay with the Owls.
Pundit Don Goodman labelled Henrik Pedersen’s contract extension at Sheffield Wednesday as a “tiny positive” but insisted the club is still a “mess”.
The Owls are currently struggling behind the scenes, facing three transfer embargoes, while current boss Danny Rohl is nowhere to be seen.
However, Wednesday did finally have something to celebrate, as Rohl’s assistant coach Henrik Pedersen has agreed to his extend his stay at Hillsborough, with the Dane previously being touted to take the hotseat at some stage.
With Pedersen remaining at the club, Sheffield Wednesday can at least guarantee that they will a leading figure in the dugout when the first ball of the new season is kicked, providing one small ounce of stability.
With this news in mind, pundit Don Goodman has weighed in with his thoughts about Pedersen remaining in Yorkshire.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes Henrik Pedersen signing a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday can be seen as a “small positive” but insists the club is still in a “mess” under Dejphon Chansiri.
Goodman said: “Well, I would say there is not an awful lot of stability at Sheffield Wednesday and if there was one thing that they really need right now, it's stability, and Henrik Pedersen may offer a little bit of that. In what role? We don't know, the club is still a mess.
“They're off to St George’s Park without Danny Rohl, without a manager, with contracts of key players still up in the air, so listen, you have to take every positive that you possibly can out of any scenario, and I suppose Henrik Pedersen signing for the club is a tiny positive.”
Amidst all the chaos, it’s fantastic to see Henrik Pedersen showing care and passion to see the club succeed despite all the recent issues.
There’s not been a lot of togetherness from the playing squad or coaching staff recently, but hopefully Pedersen can help generate some unity within the camp in what will prove to be a tough Championship campaign.
The 47-year-old has limited experience as a full-time manager, having spent time in charge of now-defunct Ghanaian club Red Bull Ghana, Danish sides HB Koge and Vendsyssel FF, Norwegian outfit Stromsgodset, and German club Eintracht Braunschweig respectively.
However, Wednesday don’t have much choice at the moment, and should be appreciative of someone wanting to step into the firing line at all in this whirlwind of negativity.
With Pedersen at the helm, the Yorkshire club should now be doing all they can to plan for the upcoming season, with preparation vital to having a good start on the pitch.
