Don Goodman has spoken to FLW about Norwich’s decision to back Liam Manning despite a terrible start to the season.
Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman admitted it is “refreshing” to see Norwich City give time to Liam Manning despite a woeful start to the season, but believes results have to change quickly in order for him to stay in his post long-term.
Since departing Bristol City for Carrow Road, Manning now posts the worst win rate of any Canaries boss in the club’s history, while his team have also set some unwanted records.
Earlier this term, The Canaries were on the wrong side of creating history after becoming the first team in the club’s existence to lose their opening five home games of a campaign.
And their misery was compounded after the Canaries suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Ipswich Town in the East Anglian derby at the beginning of October, with this the first time the Tractor Boys secured a victory over Norwich in 16 years.
Now, a winless run of seven league games and five straight defeats has left the club in the relegation zone, with the Norfolk-based outfit only off the foot of the table due to Sheffield Wednesday’s 12-point deduction as the Owls were placed into administration.
But with all the negativity, Norwich owner Mark Attanasio has given full backing to Manning despite the precarious position they find themselves in, believing he deserves more time to put the team on the right path, when speaking on BBC Radio Norfolk’s Canary Call phone-in.
With this in mind, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman reflected on this news, outlining whether he thinks it’s the correct decision.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman outlined that it’s “refreshing” to see Norwich City owner Mark Attanasio back Liam Manning in a time of crisis, but believes results need to improve immediately for him to stay in his post long-term.
Goodman said: “It is always refreshing to hear an owner or board back a manager that is under pressure from the fans, isn’t winning games of football, but alas, the term dreaded vote of confidence is often used, and applied in football, when you see a manager get backing, and shortly after, get sacked.
“Ultimately, it’s about winning games of football, and I think it’s something like eight games without a win.
"They haven’t won since they beat Blackburn Rovers at the end of August, and that simply has to change.
“Liam Manning will know that, accept it and understand that.”

It’s been a disastrous run of form in the Championship for Norwich, who, as Don Goodman alluded to, are winless in eight and haven’t tasted victory since the opening month of the season.
It has to turn around, otherwise Liam Manning will be facing a swift departure, as Mark Attanasio outlined that “relegation is not an option”.
It’s becoming increasingly difficult to rectify this given the fans are turning on Manning, while relationships between the hierarchy are clearly fractured and need repairing too.
Norwich face Hull City, Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City before the next international break, and the results of those games could be pivotal whether Manning remains in the job.
