Speaking exclusively with FLW, Don Goodman has been discussing the futures of two Baggies stars.
Jed Wallace made his first real mark on the 2025/26 Championship campaign last weekend when he scored in West Bromwich Albion's 3-2 win over Wrexham.
The Baggies were able to spoil the Welsh side's party as they finally returned to the second tier after many seasons away.
Two goals from the hugely impressive Isaac Price combined with Wallace's second-half strike, not long after coming onto the pitch to replace Tom Fellows, were enough to get Albion over the line and hand them three points.
With Fellows ahead of him, it's hard to see how Wallace will break into Ryan Mason's starting XI on his preferred right-hand side this season.
The 22-year-old, who is currently ahead of him in the pecking order, has been linked a number of times this summer with a move away from The Hawthorns. Most recently, Southampton have been named by Football Insider as an interested party.
Should West Brom cash in on the England under-21 international this summer, Wallace would be the natural option to step into his role.
For that reason, former Baggy turned Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes that Albion should look to keep the 31-year-old around.
If the opportunity for more regular first-team minutes, something he has struggled to get since the start of last season, doesn't come about, Goodman admitted that the club could be at risk of losing him.
He exclusively told Football League World: "Well, so far, Jed Wallace has been used as a substitute. Obviously against Wrexham, [he] had a huge impact.
"So the question is, is he a player that Ryan Mason sees having an impact for West Bromwich Albion this season?
"Certainly the early signs are that he's capable of it. He's hungry for it. The problem for Jed Wallace is he only started six Championship games last season, and that's just nowhere near enough for him. At his stage of his career, he'll be wanting more game time.
"From West Brom's perspective, he's shown that he could impact games, so you'd be wanting to keep him.
"From Jed Wallace's perspective, you'd probably be wanting more minutes. So it'll be interesting to keep an eye on what happens."
Wallace has less than a year left on his contract with Albion as things stand.
He's been with the East Midlands club since the summer of 2022, and soon a decision will have to come on whether him and the club see their futures being together.
If the answer to that question is no, he and West Brom have some serious thinking to do over the upcoming days.
In that scenario, the Baggies will only have one more opportunity to let Wallace leave and get some cash in return after the 1 September deadline: the January transfer window.
You'd expect that there will be plenty of teams come that time who like the look of the 31-year-old winger, but they will also know that by that point that they could potentially sign him without having to pay a transfer fee in a matter of months.
Unless there's genuine interest in him, and there's a threat of Fellows leaving, West Brom won't be inclined to sell Wallace before 7pm on the first day of next month.
They do, however, need to be prepared to lose him within the next 12 months.
