The former Derby County, Chelsea and Everton boss will be short of worries right now heading into the November international break, with Coventry remaining at the summit of the Championship table with a five-point margin over now-managerless Middlesbrough in second place after returning to winning ways through Saturday's 1-0 victory at third-placed Stoke City.

Coventry have lost just one of their opening 15 matches and, with an astounding goal differential of +27, are poised to stake a strong claim for promotion to the Premier League under Lampard this season after losing out in the play-off semi-finals to Sunderland last season.

There is, of course, a palpable feel-good factor humming around the CBS Arena at the minute, with supporters rightfully, and collectively, excited about what could be in store come May if the Sky Blues are to continue their blistering form at the top of the league standings.

As such, there is very little to complain about, although Lampard has been handed a fresh issue involving the future of promising talent Andrews, with admirers of the Welsh international growing ahead of the January transfer window.

Sources close to Football League World have exclusively revealed that Andrews has emerged as a target for a number of undisclosed Bundesliga clubs, with German football's top-flight having garnered a reputation for luring away top talent from British shores.

The likes of ex-Birmingham City star Jude Bellingham, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Jadon Sancho and now-German international playmaker Jamal Musiala are the most high-profile names to have been acquired from English clubs by savvy Bundesliga sides, and FLW understands that 19-year-old Andrews is now the latest prospect to find himself on the radar of German top-flight teams.

Andrews' own stance on potentially leaving the West Midlands for the Bundesliga remains unclear, with the teenager yet to establish himself in Lampard's side at Coventry, although the Sky Blues may be sweating over his immediate future nonetheless.

Despite having played just 35 minutes of Championship football thus far in the 2025/26 campaign, Andrews remains highly-rated at Coventry after rising through the youth ranks with much excitement before spending the second-half of the previous season on loan in the Scottish top-flight with Motherwell, where he featured on 12 occasions.

Andrews, an energetic central midfielder by trade, faces significant competition to build upon his total of eight appearances for Coventry, who can call upon the likes of Jamie Allen, Josh Eccles and, more often than not, Matt Grimes and Victor Torp in the engine room.

But the exciting midfielder is a core part of Coventry's long-term future and they will likely have little intention of changing that. Coventry may, however, need to address Andrews' contractual situation, with his current deal set to expire next summer — which means that, without resolution, he could be free to negotiate deals with new clubs soon and the Sky Blues would have to settle for a compensation fee due to his age.

Coventry City's Kai Andrews is also an exciting international prospect with Wales

It's not just Coventry or Bundesliga clubs who admire Andrews' talent, with the Birmingham-born prospect also making a significant impression on Wales boss Craig Bellamy.

Qualifying for the Red Dragons through his maternal grandmother from Abercarn in South Wales, Andrews represented Wales at age-group level before earning his first senior squad call-up in March of this year for the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualification double-header against Kazakhstan and North Macedonia.

Labeled as a prospect with the potential to become a "really top player" by an enthusiastic Bellamy at the time, Andrews would have to wait until September's 1-0 friendly defeat to Canada at the Swansea.com Stadium to receive his first senior cap for Wales.

He is, of course, primed for a big future for both club and country — and Coventry will hope to see the Welsh international develop exactly where he is, instead of being poached by bigger sides abroad.
