February is gearing up to be another busy month of action for Celtic FC Women. While league fixtures against Glasgow City and Hearts are on the horizon, the Ghirls kick off the month with a Glasgow derby against Rangers this Sunday in the semi-final of the Sky Sports Cup.
After returning to action at the beginning of January and picking up three wins on the bounce, it has been a positive start for new boss, Grant Scott.
And that is something captain, Kelly Clark, is keen to see continue as she and her team-mates gear up for this weekend’s cup clash at Broadwood Stadium.
Speaking to Celtic TV in an exclusive interview, the skipper said: “I think at this stage of the season, we are fairly happy. The league is obviously quite close at the top.
“Of course, there is a couple of results we would like to have been on the better side of, but I think we're fairly comfortable with where we are right now.
‘We have an opportunity on Sunday to get ourselves in the League Cup final for the first time in a few years.’
“Obviously the Scottish Cup is still in the early stages too, but there are a few big wins in there for us, which I think has been huge. especially when we look to the more recent games against Hibs. These are results that we didn’t get last season.
“So, I think as a group, we are fairly happy. There is still a long way to go, and we’ll take the next games as they come and see where we end up.”
As Celtic FC Women's captain, Kelly Clark has tasted final success, coming away as a winner of this competition back in 2021.
With the chance to reach the final once more, Clark insisted she and the entire squad are keen to get that taste once again.
“The semi-final on Sunday is massive,” she said, "not just the fact it’s a Rangers game, but it’s a cup semi-final and the chance to get to a final.
“These are the kind of games that you want to play in, and there's always an extra bit of buzz about it, whether it was Rangers, Glasgow City or Hibs, because it’s a cup semi-final. But the fact it’s a Glasgow derby brings that extra edge.
“You can see it in training, everybody really striving to be perfect, 100 per cent. We are pushing each other to make sure every pass is exactly where they want it to be.
“We felt in the last game at Ibrox, we were maybe a little bit unfortunate. We put in a good performance, especially in the first half.
“So, we’ll look to go one further and get ourselves into the final."
