The EFL pundit has weighed in with his opinion on who he believes will succumb to the drop come May
As we approach the second international break, many pundits and punters are looking back at their pre-season predictions. Some with optimism, and some with pure confusion at the surprises thrown through the first few months of the campaign.
A few sides have struggled through the opening nine or so games of the 2025/26 Championship campaign, but there are expectations that the likes of Sheffield United and Norwich City will find their groove and move up the table soon enough.
However, who out of the current basement scrappers does EFL pundit Lee Hendrie feel won't pick up the necessary points in the coming months, and be in the thick of things at the bottom of the table come May?
In an exclusive interview with Football League World, the former Aston Villa midfielder gave his opinion on which three sides will be playing in League One next season.
Speaking to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie debated who may fall out of what is a truly competitive Championship division after what we've seen so far this season.
"I think Sheffield Wednesday have it all to do with everything going on over there," Hendrie said.
"Oxford United, I just feel are destined unless there's a massive improvement, and then the third one's a difficult one, because there are so many good sides down there.
"I'm thinking Blackburn Rovers, could they possibly go this season? I just think the way things are over there hasn't been great, and there's just been a massive decline in poor form and results. So I'll chuck them in there too."
Year by year, we see the standard of football teams across the EFL improve, and last season, it was tough to predict who would go down due to the qualities of each side involved in the relegation scrap. This year, it seems even more difficult.
As alluded to before, the likes of Sheffield United and Norwich City are sides expected to be at the opposite end of the table, and have the personnel to climb up once things begin to click.
Then, strong starts from the likes of Hull City and Preston North End, two sides many expected to be battling down at the bottom, have made it almost impossible to single out three teams who, right now, are destined for the drop.
Despite Sheffield Wednesday's valiant efforts on the pitch, points deductions seem inevitable, and with those deductions, it's difficult to see them surviving. But other than the Owls, it seems like there'll be two good Championship-level teams going down with them.
Slow starts from Oxford and Blackburn in comparison to the other teams, expected to be battling down at the bottom, give them an uphill task just two months into the campaign, as they're now chasing the rest of the pack and hoping for some slip-ups along the way.
Nevertheless, it's looking like it's going to be another enthralling fight at the bottom of the Championship this season, and one that'll be fun to watch...as long as you're not a fan of one of the sides embroiled in it.
