Get French Football News understands that Leeds United are considering a move for Standard Liege goalkeeper Matthieu Epolo (21). Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille remain in the race, but there interest may have cooled in recent days.
Epolo, who competed for DR Congo at the most recent FIFA World Cup, could be available for a fee of €8m this summer. Marseille had been keen on the shotstopper and whilst they retain an interest, a recent decision taken by the club’s hierarchy has seen their interest cool. Jeffrey De Lange played against RC Strasbourg Alsace, and whilst he may not remain as the club’s No.1 for the season, OM have opted to retain him. The Dutchman was seen as a potential makeweight in the deal to take Epolo to the Vélodrome.
Epolo was also an option for Toulouse FC in the event of Guillaume Restes leaving. GFFN understands, however, that the France youth international will remain with Les Violets, at least until the winter. Leeds United have now emerged as a serious option. The Premier League club are in the market for a No.2 and are currently deciding whether to recruit experience or dip into the market for a prospect. Should they do the latter, Epolo tops their list.
