Liverpool have been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie for a number of months, with some reports suggesting they were ready to bid £60 million for the player’s signature. Hincapie impressed in the World Cup with Ecuador last season and has become a valuable part of Xabi Alonso’s side this season, as they won the Bundesliga unbeaten.
The Red’s are said to be in the market for a left-centre back, and Hincapie’s name has been one of the most heavily linked. Willian Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt is also another name the club has been heavily linked to, with their reports heating up intensely in the last two weeks.

We understand there has been no contact between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, despite reports suggesting otherwise. There is no £60 million bid being prepared by the Merseyside club, and as of now, it looks like they will be shopping elsewhere for a new defender.
Hincapie, 22, has played 37 times in all competitions this season, scoring once and delivering two assists. He can play at both centre-back and left-back, and has also featured at left midfield under Alonso this season. The defender has played 31 times for his country since his debut in June of 2021.
Liverpool’s recruitment team for this summer may be waiting until Jurgen Klopp leaves and Arne Slot officially takes over as the new manager, but as of now, the two clubs are not in contact. Slot is expected to be announced as the new Liverpool manager closer to the end season, with Liverpool still slightly involved in the title race with three games to go.
