Levi Colwill was spotted in training yesterday, leading to a fresh wave of speculation about when we might see him play again.

The UEFA mandated open training session at Cobham yesterday generated something of a buzz because of the presence of Levi Colwill.

The defender has been out since he tore his ACL in August, but was back with the group for some of their exercises yesterday.

The Chelsea Confidential update from the Daily Mail today gives a little more detail on where Colwill stands as he continues his recovery.

As we made it clear yesterday, the fact he was with the group shouldn’t make anyone think that he’s close to a return just yet. “Colwill has some way to go before we see him in an actual game,” they write.

Colwill takes important step – but is still a long way off competitive

While he was there doing drills, we wouldn’t expect him to be in full sessions or practice games for a few more weeks, and then it will take a while to build up his fitness again. The medical staff are bound to be extra careful, given how well stocked we are at centre back at the moment.

So we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves – but still, the chances of seeing him in action before the season is out have certainly risen, and if continues on this path we would actually expect at least a token appearance before the campaign is out.

In other news…

West Ham are keen on signing Axel Disasi permanently, and there’s going to be a big battle over his price it seems.

Another transfer rumour doing the rounds relates to tonight’s game against PSG – the Parisians are apparently still keen on Enzo Fernandez.
