His 2025 form had been enough to secure a spot in Thomas Tuchel's squad for the September internationals, however the attacker was omitted from subsequent camps thanks to Adam Wharton's return from injury.

Still though, the former Chelsea man is hoping he can impress his old club boss and book a spot on the plane for USA 2026.

“I feel in really good shape," he told OneFootball. "It’s nice to be back involved in the England squad in a World Cup year and I’ve worked with the coach [Thomas Tuchel] before [at Chelsea], so he knows how I am as a player.

“I always say the main thing is good form at Milan and winning at Milan - the individual rewards come after that. I've always had that motivation to play at my best, whether I'm playing for England or not. That's just how I am as a competitor."

Loftus-Cheek is currently with Milan in Saudi Arabia ahead of their Supercoppa semi-final with Napoli on Thursday.

Loftus-Cheek helped Milan to the 2025 trophy in January, where the Rossoneri beat city rivals Inter 3-2 in a dramatic final.

It gave Loftus-Cheek a taste for success that he's keen to repeat this time around in what are a big few months for the player.

“It was a good experience," he said. "We had changed coach just before it, so we had a lot of work to do in that period. But it turned out really well and we came away with the trophy, so I have fond memories of this place.

"To come back here and play a semi-final, to have the chance to be in a final and win a trophy, is very good for us.”

Saudi fans' passion for the game was on full display at last year's tournament and was something that stuck with Loftus-Cheek.

With the competition again taking place at the King Saud University Stadium - which Loftus-Cheek describes as "a great stadium to play at" - the Milan star is anticipating another bumper crowd to get behind him and his team when they take on Napoli in Thursday's first semi-final.

“I remember there were a lot of Milan fans, which was great for us," he said. "The fans are always important and they were like a 12th man at some stages. Knowing that last year we had huge support, hopefully this year it can be the same.

“I knew the fan base for football is huge out here and that it’s growing. The Saudi Pro League is growing, too, so I was sure there was going to be a lot of support, but I didn't know it was going to be that much for us! It was a very nice surprise."

Should Milan progress past Napoli they will play the winner of Inter v Bologna on Monday.
