It was reported by Sky Sports earlier this week that the forward will be departing the Foxes at the end of the campaign after 13 years with the club.

It remains unclear what the future holds for the 38-year-old, but it’s possible that his boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday could take an interest in his signature.

The striker grew up a Sheffield native, and could look to end his illustrious career with the club he grew up a fan of.

Hendrie has suggested that a lot of clubs will be interested in signing Vardy this summer despite his struggles in the Premier League this season.

He believes now could be a good time for him to move to Sheffield Wednesday, however, especially given the situation surrounding a potential change in ownership.

“Obviously he’s out of contract and it’s widely known he’s an Owls fan,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.

“I think most clubs will be looking at Jamie Vardy and think that they could certainly sign him.

“He’s got so much potential, even at the age he's at, at the moment, and obviously a free transfer, so I think it would appeal to most clubs in the Championship knowing that he’s capable of still scoring goals.

“We know that he’s probably struggled a bit this season being in the Premier League, so you do feel that the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, if the links are there and there’s a possibility that it ticks all the boxes for Jamie Vardy, you’d think that yes, that would be a fabulous move.

“You’d think that Sheffield Wednesday are on the up and it looks like maybe there’s potential for selling the football club, which might just inspire him to go there.”

Vardy played a key role in Leicester gaining promotion to the Premier League last season, scoring 18 goals in 35 appearances in the Championship.

Vardy signing could be positive for Sheffield Wednesday

There will no doubt be a lot of competition for Vardy this summer, and it’s unlikely the Owls will be able to compete financially with some rivals on a potential pay package.

But the allure of playing for your boyhood club could make up that difference, and give the club an edge in the race for his signature, if they want him.

While he can no longer compete 90 minutes every game, he still showed last year that he’s more than capable of scoring goals at Championship level.
