Lee Hendrie has told FLW his verdict on whether Miron Muslic will attract interest from clubs elsewhere this summer
Lee Hendrie expects Miron Muslic to attract attention after his impact at Plymouth Argyle since taking over in January.
The Pilgrims have already effectively been relegated due to their inferior goal difference, with one game still to play.
The gap to safety is three points, but it will take a big swing in their favour to overcome the teams above them in the table.
But, despite the setback, Muslic has earned a lot of praise for the impact he’s had at Home Park since taking over Plymouth midway through the campaign.
Hendrie believes Muslic has benefitted from Plymouth being a bit of a free hit due to the precarious position he found them in, and that it’s too soon for clubs to make a judgement on whether he’d make a good appointment elsewhere.
However, he expects the 42-year-old to still attract interest this summer even if he believes he’ll stick with the club into the summer.
“Muslic has obviously done brilliantly since he’s come in,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.
“I think it was going into the unknown, but I think the problem is with new managers coming in, particularly when it’s a relegation fight, sometimes it’s a bit of a free hit.
“Sometimes these guys come in, there’s a different voice around the changing room, and different styles to a certain extent.
“And that’s what he’s done, he’s made them pretty secure, compact and got lots of results that people thought they probably wouldn’t have gotten.
“I think, for me, it’s an early one to say because, as I said, Wayne Rooney going into Derby and they were pretty much doomed from day one but there was no real pressure on him there to take the club forward because of the points deduction.
“But I kind of feel it’s one of them where you need to look at someone over a whole season rather than a half season to really discover whether they are potential.
“Plymouth have done brilliantly to push but they are more or less relegated, but he’s done a great job.
“I’m pretty sure he’s going to want to stay and take the club forward back to the Championship.
“But, as you know, when managers come in and they do have that success it does certainly attract other clubs to look at his style and his way of play.”
Plymouth will play Leeds United on the final day where only a win can give them a chance at survival, albeit an unlikely one.
Muslic took over a struggling Plymouth side and gave them a chance at survival, while also guiding them to a solid run in the FA Cup where they beat Premier League winners Liverpool.
It’s hard not to imagine how the team might have fared had he been at the helm from the start of the campaign, as they’ve simply run out of time to turnaround their league position.
The Pilgrims will surely be keen to hold onto the 42-year-old through the summer, but he’s going to attract interest from elsewhere off the back of his time at Home Park so far.
If Plymouth can hold onto him, then he could give the team a good chance at fighting for promotion straight back to the Championship next season.
