Swansea City are lining up a raid on Welsh rivals Wrexham of veteran defender Conor Coady, Football League World has learned

Wrexham AFC star Conor Coady could be poised to move away from North Wales once again following an enquiry from Swansea City over the ex-England international defender's services, Football League World can exclusively reveal.

Coady's future at the Stok Cae Ras remains uncertain after spending the second-half of the previous season on loan with Championship rivals Charlton Athletic, whom he helped stay afloat in the division.

Since returning from South London, however, the 33-year-old has found himself out of favour once again under Phil Parkinson, failing to appear in either matchday squad for the Red Dragons' two Championship encounters against Cardiff City and Watford in the 2026/27 campaign to date.

Swansea City have been placed on red alert to Coady's current situation at the other end of Wales, and Football League World has learned that Vitor Matos' side have sent an enquiry regarding the veteran's availability ahead of the looming September 1 transfer deadline.

FLW understands that Coady would represent a direct replacement for Cameron Burgess, who is primed to miss the entirety of the campaign after rupturing his achilles in the Swans' 1-0 EFL Cup defeat to Birmingham City earlier this month.

Swansea are bidding to bolster the backline following the huge blow by losing the Australian defender until next season, and have acted upon their interest to lodge an enquiry for Coady as they look to provide an escape route out of North Wales.

Coady joined Wrexham from Leicester City one year ago, but lost his place early into the previous term and has not started a league game for the Welsh outfit since featuring in a 3-1 home defeat to QPR - which saw the 10-cap former England international score an own goal in a shaky individual display before being hauled off with eight minutes to spare.

Wrexham will likely be expected to sanction Coady's departure with little to haggle over, considering just how far the famed ex-Wolves captain has fallen down Parkinson's pecking order.

Coady, who can also feature in defensive midfield, is now the sixth-choice central defender under a manager who invariably operates with a five-man backline, finding himself behind Max Cleworth, Callum Doyle, Dom Hyam, Dan Scarr and Zak Vyner.

Though the experienced defender has struggled for both form and minutes at Wrexham, he did enjoy a mini-resurgence of sorts after joining Charlton on loan, helping Nathan Jones' side to retain their Championship status after gaining promotion from League One in May of last year.

Swansea view Coady as a capable performer at second-tier level in spite of his difficulties with the Red Dragons, and an ideal candidate to fill in for Burgess until the former Ipswich Town's stalwart returns to full fitness.

According to reports, Swansea have shelled out north of £10 million combined for two wingers alone in Joseph Opoku and Elijah Just, with the latter having greatly impressed at this summer's FIFA 2026 World Cup for New Zealand by scoring a brace against Iran and finding the back of the net in a 5-1 defeat to Belgium.

Leo Walta's loan move has also been made permanent, while Stephen Walsh, Tiago Parente and Moussa Yeo have joined from Celtic, Benfica and RB Salzburg respectively, and Ross Stewart has arrived after helping Southampton reach the play-offs last season with eight strikes from less than 1,000 minutes of league action.

It has been an impressive window for the Swans, and while the potential addition of Coady may not send pulses racing akin to some of the other X-Factor reinforcements in this corner of South Wales, he would help to fill a position in need of addressing owing to the limited central defensive options at Matos' disposal away from Walsh and club captain Ben Cabango alongside injecting some serious experience and know-how at this level.
