Lee Hendrie has told FLW his verdict on Adam Idah's reported wages at Swansea City

Lee Hendrie believes that Adam Idah has to deliver strong performances at Swansea City to justify the reported high wages he is receiving.

It was reported by Alan Nixon that the forward is earning £40,000 per week as part of his deal with the Welsh outfit.

It has been claimed that this is easily the most money the club have offered since their time in the Premier League, having been relegated in 2018.

Idah moved on deadline day, and has so far made two substitute appearances in the Championship in Alan Sheehan’s side, and is yet to contribute a goal or assist.

He also started for Swansea in their 3-2 comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the third round of the EFL Cup.

Hendrie believes that Idah now has to deliver on the pitch in order to justify the money spent to bring him to Swansea at the end of the transfer window.

He has claimed that the forward has struggled to show what he can do at big clubs like Celtic and Norwich City, and that £40,000-a-week is a lot for a Championship side to spend.

“It’s a lot of money, isn’t it? Adam Idah, but he’s been at big clubs really and I wouldn’t say he’s delivered,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.

“That’s been my only situation with Adam Idah.

“It’s a lot of money and he has to come and deliver, there’s no doubt at Swansea.

“They’re a club that seem to be trying to strive on that upward level again.

“Given the opportunity, I watched one of the games midweek against Forest and he worked hard but he’s got to get that place in the team to give him an opportunity to go and prove that he’s worth that sort of money.

“Because it is a lot of money in the Championship, and he’ll be one of the top earners you’d say.”

Idah spent one full season at Celtic as a permanent player after an initial six-month loan spell, and he contributed 13 goals from 35 league appearances.

The Ireland international also scored during the recent international break, equalising in the last minute in a 2-2 draw against Hungary.

Swansea will be hoping this goal gives him the confidence to hit the ground running once he’s thrown into the team from the start.

Next up for Sheehan’s side is a home clash against Millwall on 27 September in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Adam Idah wages is a risky move for Swansea City

Idah is a player with plenty of potential, but he has struggled to really put together a consistent run of good form throughout his career.

He was overshadowed at Norwich by Josh Sargent, who has gone on to become one of the top strikers in the second division.

That is the standard that Idah will have to meet at Swansea, otherwise it will be difficult to say that he has proved worth the money.

It is a big risk for the Welsh outfit to push the boat out to sign the forward for this much money, and it could easily backfire if he continues to struggle for goals at this level.
