Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has his say on John Textor's reported interest in Sheffield Wednesday
Following his exit from Crystal Palace, John Textor has immediately turned his attention to finding a new investment in English Football.
According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday have emerged as one of the Championship clubs under consideration from the American billionaire.
Textor is understood to be looking for a club where he can have full control rather than the minority shareholding arrangement he had at Selhurst Park.
Reports also suggest Textor is among multiple parties expressing interest in the crisis-hit Owls, who are currently enduring well-known financial difficulties under current owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Operating under transfer restrictions for the next three windows, the South Yorkshire club's predicament has worsened tenfold in recent weeks - with manager Danny Rohl's future still uncertain and several staff members having to seek emergency financial assistance.
Speaking exclusively to FLW, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes John Textor's reported interest in Sheffield Wednesday would be "good news" for the owls - as the club desperately seeks an escape from Dejphon Chansiri.
"This would be good news. John Textor who obviously recently left Crystal Palace in a noble gesture in order that Crystal Palace could fulfill their Europe league entitlement next season," Goodman told FLW.
"So that was brilliant of him. He has been involved in a club that has gone from strength to strength in Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday are undoubtedly one of those clubs, depending on what the purchase price would be, that an owner could really invest in.
The former striker drew similarities with other EFL success stories, adding, "A little like Birmingham City, and really build it back up from the depths really, because you don’t really feel at this moment Sheffield Wednesday could sink too much lower with the off-field problems."
There's no denying Textor's credentials as a football owner are solid, having built Eagle Football Holdings into a global operation that includes Brazilian club Botafogo and French giants Olympique Lyon.
The 59-year-old's involvement at Palace coincided with a period of sustained progress for the South London club, resulting in their historic FA Cup win over Manchester City.
As Goodman touched on, his decision to sell his Palace shares so they are allowed to play in Europe shows his commitment to club success over personal financial gain - something Owls fans would want Chansiri to do.
Former Crystal Palace chairman and TalkSPORT regular, Simon Jordan, has publicly endorsed Textor's potential move to South Yorkshire, revealing he personally recommended the Owls as an ideal investment during conversations with the American.
Goodman's assessment that Wednesday "could sink too much lower" reflects the gravity of their current situation - with the club's very future appearing to depend on finding new ownership, and perhaps John Textor is the right man to do just that.
