Wagner took it upon himself to address the Blues squad following a hard-earned point in North Wales
Birmingham City chairman Tom Wagner delivered a pep talk to Chris Davies' squad after their 1-1 draw at Wrexham.
It's been nearly two weeks since Blues were in Championship action, having been the first second tier match on in the final weekend before the October international break, but they were made to settle for a point at the STōK Cae Ras.
With City winning just one of their previous five league matches heading into that contest, a victory would've been ideal against the team that they came up from League One with - but it wasn't to be.
And FLW can reveal that moments after Blues dragged themselves back into the game through Patrick Roberts’s early second-half strike, American financier Wagner went into the dressing-room at the final whistle.
He let the players know that he appreciated their efforts as they eked out a 1-1 draw against the North Wales side.
Wagner had earlier rallied the travelling support at the STōK Cae Ras at half-time as they trailed to George Dobson’s 13th-minute goal.
He was caught on camera telling the 1,200 fans that they needed to turn up the volume a notch or two in support of Chris Davies’s side.
It was received as ‘cringe’ on social media by supporters of other clubs - but was generally well-received by those in his midst - and not all because he footed a bar bill for them.
And he felt compelled to do likewise afterwards, also spelling out to the players that they were capable of climbing the Championship.
It was a tour de force from the New York based head of Knighthead Capital who had also firmly scotched any reports that boss Davies was under pressure.
Wagner said: “Chris has the complete and total confidence of the board - period. Full stop.
“We are focused on process and I am confident the process he is pursuing will pay dividends and we will be competitors.”
Although owners going into the hallowed sanctum of a dressing-room is usually frowned upon, Wagner went in to deliver a rallying cry as Davies’s side picked up the first point on their travels in four matches.
Despite being one of the pre-season favourites to win promotion straight through to the Premier League, much like Ipswich Town did between 2022 and 2024 from League One to the top flight, Birmingham's start has been indifferent.
They sit 16th in the table after nine league matches, with just three victories so far in Championship action, although the likes of Southampton, Norwich City and Sheffield United are all below them at this current moment in time.
